For some, convenience means the ability to depart in a hurry. Residents of the Caswell Lakes area face daily challenges as they negotiate around parked vehicles alongside already treacherous road-ways through the community. This scofflaw has decided to park at the driveway opening of one of the most poularly trespassed properties in the area. Apparently, it is only reasonable that the unwilling host of these ATV and snowmachine drivers be required to afford them the opportunity to park athwart the only access to his property.
Unfortunately, such nuisances are regarded with little importance by State authorities charged with enforcing laws in the area (whom, lamentably, are the ONLY authorities charged with that duty). Un-addressed Title 10 violations are a commonplace circumstance endured by silent property owners of this and similar rural communities across the State. In addition to creating obstacles to emergency equipment and property access by the rightful owners, such occurrences, as depicted in the photo above, pose hazards to residents as they find their way into or out of isolated driveways, prevent proper clearing of snow and storm debris from the roadways, and threaten travellers moving along winding private and public access roads. This apathy among law-enforcement agencies is in stark contrast to their attentiveness in more populated areas, where mere parking issues are dealt with summarily by those same authorities, many times resulting in the removal of the equipment in question, and where street-use violations by off-road vehicles result in hefty fines and likely confiscation of the equipment.
Such an attitude may well mean the necessity of effected residents taking up law enforcement in their own communities, a vigilante measure much loathed by the same apathetic authorities who, having avoided their duty by choice, would perforce be called to action none care to contemplate. The burning question is this: will conditions be allowed to deteriorate to that point? One fact is clear: residents impacted by this are becoming frustrated, and further neglect may well lead to the unthinkable.
